Did you know that Mediterranean food is the fastest growing segment in the food industry? People who follow a Mediterranean diet are likely to be happier in life. This is the conclusion of a new report published in the journal ‘Archives of General Psychiatry’. The study’s authors say a diet that is rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains and fish seems to make people less likely to develop depression. This may explain why people who live in Mediterranean countries are more laid back than other Europeans. There are fewer mental disorders in Mediterranean countries and scientists believe this could be because of the diet. The new research supports previous studies that suggested olive oil protects against depression. No Greek meal is complete without olive oil. Here are some quick recipes:
Meat Blend: Blended especially for beef, pork, lamb and veal, the flavor profile of this blend will give your favorite meat dishes a very distinctive flavor!"
Recipe: For steaks, rub some olive oil and meat blend in before grilling. It is also great sprinkled on burgers! For pork, combine vegetable oil, lemon juice and plenty of spice in a zip lock bag. Mix thoroughly and marinate for a couple of hours or overnight. …lemon gives pork a great flavor. For beef roast, brisket or lamb, I use the above recipe but substitute red wine for the lemon juice.
Poultry Blend: Blended especially for chicken and turkey, the flavor profile of this blend will give your favorite poultry dishes incredible flavor!
Recipe: Combine chicken with vegetable oil, lemon juice and plenty of spice in a zip lock bag. Mix thoroughly and let marinate for a couple of hours or overnight, then bake or grill. For whole chicken, turkey and Cornish game hens, rub the entire bird with lemon juice and olive oil, coat with spice (sprinkle some inside too)….your bird will be golden brown and bursting with flavor.
Seafood Blend: Blended especially for seafood, this spice will take on a different flavor profile for each type of seafood it is applied to….could not be any easier.
Recipe: Squeeze some fresh lemon or lime juice on your fillets, drizzle with quality olive oil, sprinkle seafood blend on both sides, then bake or grill until tender and flaky.
Vegetable Blend: Blended especially for vegetables, this spice will make your favorite vegetable dishes come alive!
Recipe: Great for salad! Add some vegetable blend, olive oil and red wine vinegar to your favorite greens or sprinkle some over your favorite cooked vegetables and mix thoroughly. Cut regular or sweet potatoes into wedges, coat with olive oil and vegetable blend then bake on a cookie sheet for incredible homemade fries! Also great on popcorn!
